See the latest issue of the International Journal of Partnership Studies: Caring Democracy
Dear Riane:
I am excited to share with you my painting, Finestra del Oro, featured in the new International Journal of Partnership Studies issue on a Caring Democracy. Riane Eisler, president of the Center for Partnership Studies and founder of the Caring Economy Campaign, is the Guest Editor for this issue.
This painting is from the early 2000’s and was lost by movers when the owner recently changed states. So I’m glad Riane asked me show it here. It’s as though the painting itself wants to make itself visible.
I first encountered Riane Eisler in the 1990’s after reading her extraordinary book, The Chalice & the Blade. The Chalice and the Blade tells a new story of our cultural origins. It shows that war and the ?war of the sexes? are neither divinely nor biologically ordained. And it provides verification that a better future is possible ? and is in fact firmly rooted in the haunting drama of what actually happened in our past.
I created a body of paintings inspired by the book, that culminated in a number of solo exhibitions, entitled The Song of Memory. The last was at CIIS (The California Institute of Integral Studies) in San Francisco. To see images of the work, scroll down to October 3, 2003, Opening Night.?These scroll-like paintings are meant to resemble banners from various countries, and as symbolic and inclusive representations of all nations, as in the Partnership Model, as described in The Chalice & The Blade.
May my painting and the Caring Democracy issue inspire hope and positive purposeful action today in our world, which so badly needs it.
Many good wishes and love to all,
Barbara
